Critical Crevice Corrosion Temperature (CCCT) – ATSM G48B
AL-6XN is a superaustenitic stainless steel alloy known for its high corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride-rich and acidic environments. It is a high-purity, low-carbon, nitrogen-enhanced alloy with a composition that includes approximately 6% molybdenum, 25% nickel, and 22% chromium. It gives it excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. AL-6XN is also highly weldable and offers superior mechanical strength compared to conventional stainless steels, making it an ideal material for harsh environments such as marine, chemical processing, food and beverage, and power generation industries.
Other Names for AL6XN®
Due to its superior corrosion resistance, high strength, and weldability, AL-6XN is widely used in industries that operate in harsh environments with high exposure to chlorides, acids, and extreme temperatures. Below are the key industries that rely on AL-6XN fasteners and the types of fasteners commonly used in each sector:
The high molybdenum (6%) and nickel (25%) content make AL-6XN highly resistant to seawater corrosion, making it ideal for offshore oil rigs, shipbuilding, desalination plants, and coastal infrastructure.
This alloy resists strong acids (sulfuric, hydrochloric, and phosphoric acids), as well as chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking, making it ideal for chemical reactors, heat exchangers, and piping systems.
AL6XN meets FDA and sanitary standards due to its resistance to pitting and bacterial contamination, making it perfect for food processing plants, breweries, and dairy facilities.
With high-temperature strength and exceptional corrosion resistance, it is widely used in boilers, turbines, and cooling systems in power plants.
Offers superior resistance to brine and chlorinated water, making it a preferred material for reverse osmosis systems, water filtration plants, and wastewater treatment facilities.
AL-6XN fasteners are essential in industries where corrosion resistance, durability, and high strength are required. From marine and offshore applications to chemical processing, food & beverage, power generation, and desalination plants, AL-6XN ensures long-lasting performance in the most demanding environments.
