Overview

Titanium Gr7’s palladium addition gives it superior corrosion resistance than Grade 2 titanium, especially in highly acidic and cryogenic environments.

What Is Titanium Gr7?

Titanium Gr7 (UNS R52400), often referred to as Ti-0.15Pd, is a commercially pure titanium alloy modified by a small addition of palladium (approximately 0.12% – 0.25%). This small addition significantly boosts its resistance to pitting crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, especially in reducing acids and chloride-rich chemical environments.

This alloy maintains the same excellent weldability and moderate strength as Titanium Grade 2 but surpasses it substantially in terms of chemical resistance, making it ideal for highly corrosive and specialized applications.

Titanium Gr7 Composition

Titanium Gr7 is composed of the following elements:

  • Titanium (Ti): Balance
  • Palladium (Pd): 0.12% – 0.25%
  • Iron (Fe): 0.3%
  • Oxygen (O): 0.25%
  • Carbon (C): 0.08%
  • Nitrogen (N): 0.03%
  • Hydrogen (H): 0.015%
  • Other: Total ≤ 0.4%

Please note that our composition data follows ASTM material specifications for Alloy UNS R52400.

Other Names for Titanium Gr7

Titanium Gr7 is also known as:

  • Grade 7 Ti-0.15Pd Alloy
  • UNS R52400
  • Titanium grade 7
  • Ti Grade 7
  • Ti-0.15Pd alloy
  • ASTM grade 7 titanium
  • W-Nr. 3.7235

Titanium Gr7 Vs. Titanium Grade 2

Ti Grade 7 and Titanium Gr2 share similar physical and mechanical properties. However, Grade 7 offers enhanced corrosion resistance due to its palladium content. This makes Grade 7 the preferred choice in applications involving aggressive chemical exposures or seawater.

Titanium Gr7 Applications

Ti-0.15Pd alloy is often used in:

  • Chemical processing: Components in reactors, heat exchangers and piping systems handling reducing acids
  • Power generation: Fasteners and structural elements in high-pressure, high-temperature environments
  • Marine and desalination: Parts exposed to seawater and chlorides like desalination systems, heat exchangers, brine evaporators and condenser tubing
  • Air pollution control: Equipment that handles corrosive gases and liquids
  • Pulp and paper: Components used in bleaching and washing processes
