Hex Socket Pipe Plugs

Hex Socket Pipe Plugs

A pipe plug is a type of fitting used to close the end of a pipe or to block the flow of fluid within a pipe system. It typically consists of a cylindrical body with external threads that match the internal threads of the pipe. The plug is threaded into the pipe to create a seal, preventing the flow of liquid or gas through the pipe. Some pipe plugs may also have a square or hexagonal head to facilitate tightening with a wrench or can have a broached hexagonal socket when the plug needs to sit flush.

What are Pipe Plugs

A pipe plug is a device used to seal the end of a pipe in order to prevent the flow of liquids, gases, or other substances through that section of the piping system.

What are the Common Uses

  • Isolation for Maintenance: Pipe plugs can isolate a section of a pipe so that maintenance or repairs can be conducted without shutting down the entire system.
  • Pressure Testing: Inflatable or mechanical plugs are used in hydrostatic or pneumatic testing to check the integrity of a pipeline by sealing off sections and applying pressure.
  • Temporary Sealing: During construction or pipeline modifications, plugs temporarily block off unused or incomplete pipe sections to prevent debris or fluid ingress.
  •  Permanent Sealing: In some cases, pipe plugs are used for permanent closure of abandoned pipes.
